THE LOCK HOUSE MUSEUM HISTORY

While the canal was in operation from 1840 through the 1890s, the Lock House served ably in its dual roles of providing a residence for the lock tender (or lock keeper) and his family and an office for the toll collector.

Learned Something New!

A very interesting little museum with a working lock model and a brand new, beautifully designed exhibits upstairs. The docent that greeted us was very knowledgeable and kept us engaged and then we went poking around on our own inside and out. This museum is a nice little treasure located at the other end of Havre de Grace on a beautiful spot overlooking the Susquehanna River. Highly recommend this to history lovers. John R. Albany
